Hi, my name is Sara. I’m a mom, author, speaker and philanthropist. I’m also a recovering control freak. That was before cancer.
In October of 2016, my 4-year-old daughter, Layla, was diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer. Suddenly, my world was torn apart, and I had no choice but to surrender to forces far beyond my control. No schedule, no plan, no list of tasks could fix the cancer that had taken over my daughter’s brain. I had to come to terms with a painful truth: I was no longer in control. I never was.
So much has changed in my life (all of our lives! Hello, Covid) since that day in 2016. I lost one daughter, gave birth to another three months later, got divorced, moved, and moved again (and again). Through all that, though, I continue to grow and learn more about myself and how I show up in this life.
Whether you’re on the struggle bus of control today, or in control-freak recovery like me, I hope my journey can bring you some hope, inspiration, or even a giggle.
